Rabbi Yoseph and Rivkie Kahanov
In 1992, Rabbi Yoseph and Rivke Kahanov were sent to Jacksonville by the Lubavitcher Rebbe to establish the first Chabad center in Northeast Florida. What began in a small storefront has, over 35 years, grown into a vibrant network of eight Chabad centers across the First Coast. Today, Chabad stands as the leading force in Jewish life and education throughout Northeast Florida.

Rabbi Velvil and Estie Kahanov
In 2023, Rabbi Velvil and Estie Kahanov joined Chabad of Jacksonville to manage its operations. Following in the footsteps of Velvil’s parents, Rabbi Yoseph and Rivke Kahanov, and drawing on Estie’s upbringing in the Chabad at the University of Chicago, they continue to expand programs and community engagement across the First Coast, bringing more people together in Jewish life and learning.
